A three-day, two-night (3D2N) island-hopping expedition between El Nido and Coron in Palawan, in either direction, through the islands of Linapacan and Culion. Days are spent snorkelling reefs and landing on remote beaches; nights, in bahay kubo at island camps on the beach. All meals are included, and much of the food is grown on our own farm.

How the three days unfold

Day one. The expedition leaves El Nido or Coron in the morning. By afternoon we are among islands the day tours never reach, with two or three stops to swim and snorkel before arriving at the first camp for sunset.

Day two. A full day in Linapacan — reefs, sandbars and remote beaches. The second night is at a different camp.

Day three. Final island stops, then the crossing into Coron or El Nido, arriving in the afternoon.

There is no fixed route. Our crew reads the sea and the weather each morning and chooses the day's islands accordingly — which is why no two expeditions are quite the same.

The trip starts before the boat does

At San Fernando port, the Keelooma Dance Troupe performs tinikling as each expedition leaves for Coron — and again when the boat comes in from it.

The troupe are full-time members of our team, because a tradition lasts when its dancers can devote themselves to it rather than perform it now and then. Tinikling is the Philippine national dance, performed between moving bamboo poles. Guests are usually invited to try it, and usually do.

Nights ashore

Both nights are spent in bahay kubo, the Philippine house of bamboo and nipa, set on the beach and cooled by the sea air. Each has a mattress, bedding, pillow and mosquito net.

Each kubo is shared by two guests. Couples share; solo travellers are paired with another solo guest.

Toilets and showers are clean but simple, and follow the traditional Filipino tabo practice. Some of the islands we stop at are home to small fishing communities, and we ask guests to respect their privacy and way of life.

Food from our own farm

Much of what we cook is grown at Kaseledan, our farm in Sibaltan, and goes from the field to the boat. The rest comes from Sibaltan's fishermen and market, and from the communities along the route. Meals are shared together, on board and at camp — three a day, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options if you tell us in advance.
